I know it doesn’t matter to the people on breathing down my throat for a write-in for Bernie in a state that went to Hillary in a glorious landslide, but Hillary is currently leading in the Popular Vote by about 200k votes. She’s been leading since early this morning. In this case, it’s an instance in where technically, the person who didn’t win the Popular Vote won the Presidency.

Also, can we please stop threatening to hurt/kill people? The amount of sore losers/violent people in this election is absolutely horrifying. Everyone’s going “my candidate lost because it’s YOUR FAULT”, “punch EVERYONE who didn’t vote Hillary”, “I hope everyone who didn’t vote for Hillary dies” ...

Look I understand history was just made in the direction half the country disagrees with...but instead of pointing fingers, we could start working on damage control.

Seriously, there already have been multiple suicides associated with the election, we do not need this crap right now.

It’s “keyboard courage.” I’ve said flat out to several people on a few message boards that they wouldn’t have the guts to say what they’re saying to each other face-to-face.

I’m listening to Shinedown. :) I’m not even fazed a bit by the results...I expected her to lose. Crap’s going to get a LOT tougher for me, but it’s what the country decided I guess.

All three branches lean Republican. Damage control is high hopes.

Currently Bernie and Hillary supporters with an internet connection are doing a spectacularly good impression of this:

I wonder when the postmortem will come out.

Pretty much everyone underestimated the power of racism/feeling like nobody cares about you.

Hillary largely stayed out of states she thought she had in the bag...states where people felt the most left out by the Government of the past 8 years. To them, sure, Trump isn’t a good guy, but at least he cares about the little guys. I mean, he was first on the scene during the Louisiana floods (while Clinton played golf with Obama), he went to states and cities with economies destroyed by businesses moving overseas. Regardless if what he said during the rallies turn out to be lies, he at least *appeared* to care for the little guys out there...and that’s just enough to get people to vote for him.

Personally, had the DNC not completely screwed up their entire campaign from start to finish, we would have won this...but nope, we tried to cheat, and we got caught with our hands in the cookie jar.

Democrats almost always win the popular vote - the most populous states invariably vote for them (CA, NY, IL).

I didn’t sleep at all last night.

Had a panic attack.

Cried.

In an election with two terrible options, we got a terrible one. I don’t know why it affected me so much, but it did. He scares me.

I’m glad I bought my Mazda6 last year since if Trump has his way, cars like it that aren’t made in America will have a 35% tariff...

Sadly the populace vote doesn’t elect the president. It is the electoral college that does. I wish they would make the people’s vote 50% and the electoral college 50%.

Kinja'd!!!2

Oh I know, that’s my point..but everyone is losing their crap over...well everyone who didn’t vote for Hillary...but not even for legitimate reasons either. We live in a free country, if someone wanted to vote for Trump, Stein, Johnson, or anyone else, that’s their right as Americans. Furthermore, if your candidate cannot win without every single possible vote from third party voters, then your candidate probably wasn’t all that strong of a pick anyway.

I agree. Personally I voted Libertarian in the hopes that in 2020 we could have three major funded parties running. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Disappointingly, I’ve seen threats of violence or “you’re dead to me” from many of my minority friends directed at any Trump supporters. I look forward to January and seeing what the walking baked potato does when he takes office. My expectations are low but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

It’s like 2000 all over again, except Trump is at least 100x worse than Dubya.

I’ve been going over in my head since about 3am this morning about all of the regs and all of the organizations that are going to be cut and/or completely dismantled. I’m literally sick to my stomach just thinking about it and I’ve had a stress headache for the whole day now.

I think both of the major candidates weren’t the best picks out of 300 million, but somehow they got to be the nominees. Also is America a free democracy anymore? Do you remember this paper from Princeton saying America is now an oligarch? It is from 2 years ago.

You voted for the person you felt was the best chance to run the country, which is what this is all about. Voting for a person due to party affiliations goes against what the system was meant to do.

I’ve come to understand one thing. Even though all of the three branches are red they are very different shades of red. The people that called themselves republicans barely appear to be what one would call one just a couple of years ago. I personally think this election will break down the two parties.

Kinja'd!!! Mercedes Streeter > wiffleballtony

Exactly. While I see the importance of having Hillary win, telling people “you have to vote for me because your only other choice is Trump” was never going to work. People already hate the Establishment, and here was the Establishment telling you to bow down. And well...look what happened.

If I’m being honest, the fact that Trump was anti-establishment was appealing to me, and that small part of me is happy he beat Clinton.

HOWEVER, the racists now feel empowered, so fuck that.

You’d be correct. The rich and powerful run our country. As much as the most of us may think our voices matter...it’s obvious it really doesn’t. Money is apparently still worth more than words here. And Trump’s premise is pretty much “you’re going to get rich”. Even his immigration policy still comes back to money.

Kinja'd!!! Mercedes Streeter > wiffleballtony
11/09/2016 at 15:19

Pretty much all of them were. If you look at the data, Trump and Clinton are almost the most unliked candidates in history. The vast majority of people weren’t voting for a candidate, but against one.

Kinja'd!!! wiffleballtony > Mercedes Streeter
11/09/2016 at 15:24

Makes sense. Instead of the country looking at that and thinking, maybe we deserve other choices, they fall back on partisan lines that hardly ever truly represent anyone very well.

Kinja'd!!! Mercedes Streeter > TheHondaBro

Indeed, he definitely had that appeal. And there were many times during the debates where I’ve found myself either agreeing with him, or in shock because he said something that no other candidate could get away with.

But then...the racism, the GOP as a whole, anti-LBGT rhetoric, the works...I just couldn’t do that.

Kinja'd!!! Mercedes Streeter > wiffleballtony
11/09/2016 at 15:51

Kinja'd!!!1

Part of the reason is being told their ONLY choices were Trump or Clinton, then being sold on the idea of “the lesser of two evils”. Third party candidates and write-ins aren’t viable only because we have decided to not give them any legitimacy. I bet if we treated third party candidates like we treat the primary candidates, we just might have Gary Johnson as President Elect.

Agreed. I would love for a more qualified, rational, and sane anti-establishment person to win at some point. Most politicians are incredibly out of touch with what reality is for the average American and things need to be shaken up. Maybe trump winning will pave the way for that to happen in the future.

I really feel that this election has shown that the parties have grown far apart (and it doesn’t help that both candidates had glaring faults making it easy to lash out at the other side). Everyone just seems to have forgotten the golden rule of respecting one another and our differences. Maybe someone will be able to fill that gap with time. A system with a left, right, and center may actually be beneficial overall.

Real Bernie supporters knew what was going coming after the DNC and the general public gave no fucks about the DNC email leaks that proved the Primaries were a joke. Real Bernie supporters are already attempting Party damage control while the HRC fans who thought Donald was ‘deplorable’ for saying he’d contest the election results, are ironically contesting the election results.
